At Sugarbush, Earth Day isn’t a single moment. It’s something that threads through the entire season, through the early mornings, the last laps, the in-between spaces where you start to pay closer attention to the mountain itself.
Love Your Mountain Week happens right alongside that.
Not as a campaign, but as a continuation of the same idea: how we show up here matters. Not all at once. Not perfectly. Just consistently.
Here’s a look at what’s happening behind the scenes, and some of the steps that have taken shape over time. Some of those are easy to miss unless you’re looking for them.
- All paper cups across the resort are now recyclable. Thanks to improved technology at Casella’s paper recycling partners, hot beverage and fountain drink cups can be recycled if they are empty and the lid is removed. Remember to use a reusable bottle or mug when you can, as reuse is always more sustainable than recycling.
- Waste diversion has reached 41% through recycling and composting resort wide. We find partners to recycle hard-to-recycle items like rubber from lift sheave liners.
- More than 170 trees have gone back into the ground. From the snowmaking pond to the Lincoln Peak summit, we are actively restoring riparian buffers and sensitive high elevation spruce-fir forests to support vibrant ecosystems.
- Recipient of the 2025 National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) Sustainable Snowmaking Grant for additional energy efficient snowmaking equipment. Year over year, improvements are made to our snowmaking system to be more energy and water efficient, ensuring a long and reliable ski season.
- 59,594 riders took the Mad Bus last season reducing transportation emissions and parking
- The Sugarbush Golf Club is integrating more natural methods for course management reducing non-organic chemical use and mowing while making the course look more beautiful.
- In 2025 Alterra Mountain Company became the first U.S.-based ski company to have our greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets verified in conformance with the Science Based Targets (SBTi) Standards and Guidance. Sugarbush and Alterra are committed to reducing scope 1 and 2 GHG emission by 50% by FY2030 from a FY2022 base year. Sugarbush has been tracking and reducing GHG emissions since 2012 through the NSAA Climate Challenge.
If you want a clearer picture of where things stand, the 2025 Be Better Here Report goes deeper, laying out the progress and the work still ahead.
But Earth Day, here, is about awareness. About noticing what’s changing, what’s holding steady, and what’s worth taking care of.
If that’s something you’ve felt this season, we’d like to see it.
Moments that reflect that connection—big or small, from now or from years past. Tag @sugarbush_vt and we’ll share a few throughout the week. One person will take home a pair of lift tickets and a sustainability package for next season. That runs through April 24.
Earth Day doesn’t ask for much. Just that you notice where you are—and consider what it takes to keep it that way.
