Hiya folks! My name is Molly and I recently joined the team here at Sugarbush. I wanted to take a second and introduce myself so when you start reading my blogs you can go “oh yeah that, that crazy chick who likes to sleep in the woods”. So, who am I and why are you now reading this? Well, it’s a long story so let’s just relive the highlights together shall we?
Don’t hold it against me, but I come “from away” as many of the locals would say. I grew up in a little town in western New Jersey where I spent my days running around a cow field and playing in the woods. I like to look back on it now as a sign that I was destined to live in Vermont.
When I think back to my first time on skis, I have a vivid memory of screaming the whole way down the bunny hill out of fear…sorry Dad. I’m just thankful he took me again after that. While it may have been a bit of a bumpy start, I eventually picked it up and looked forward to our weekly trips to the mountains.

I grew up skiing in the Poconos. I say skiing, but it felt more like ice skating. Each week I’d spend my days trying to see how fast I could fly down the hill and horrifying my mother in the process. After college, I graduated to the mountains of New England and fell in love with winter sports even more up here.

While skiing is and always will be my first love, I have developed a deep love affair with thru-hiking and traveling post college. After my studies, I decided to horrify my mother once again and thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. She eventually came around and even did some trail magic when I got to Vermont. I reached New England right as the fall foliage began and immediately fell in love with this region. After that, I made it my life’s mission to move to New England.

You’d think that the next logical step would be to move up here, but instead I moved to Seoul, South Korea. Because why not? I spent the year eating and hiking my little heart out and then decided it was time to live in a tent once more. So, I shipped off to the west coast to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail. While hiking over the countless ski resorts, all I could imagine was what it would be like to ski down those mountains instead of walking down them. I longed for winter while I boiled alive in the summer heat. Don’t get me wrong, the west coast is gorgeous, but I was missing my green tunnel.

From there I finally made my way to New England where I lived underneath Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. That winter, I began to explore New England mountains and developed a deep fondness for Vermont skiing (especially Sugarbush). In between Maine and Vermont, I spent a bit of time living in Boston. But we can just forget about that part, I know I try to. I now reside in Montpelier where I spend my weekends trail running, camping, hiking with my dog, or searching for the best maple creemee.

If you’ve made it this far, congrats. You now know more about my life than most of my coworkers. I cannot wait to start exploring Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley even more and sharing it all with you. Let’s see what kind of adventures we can get into next. Hopefully they don’t include screaming on the bunny hill.
