Oh how the time flies by. Believe it or not, this upcoming Sunday already marks our 100th day of operations this winter (if and when you hit 100 days here, don’t forget to swing by Guest Services for a limited edition 100 day hat). And what a winter it’s been.
With the 3-4″ that fell overnight, we’re right on the cusp of passing the 200″ mark for the season, and remain well ahead of pace to outperform our 250″ average. It’s been a remarkably consistent year for snowfall so far. In fact, up to this point we have only had one stretch of more than 4 days without new snow dating all the way back to the start of December. Just constant and consistent refreshes all year long!
But snow isn’t the only highlight. New events like our Alpine Aurora – Midwinter Glow laser shows, Mobile STEM Exhibit with the Echo Leahy Center, and Ninety-Pound Rucksack Challenge have all been receiving great feedback alongside many of our returning events. Lots of you took advantage of our Earn Your Free Turns for Ikon Base Pass holders initiative or have checked out The Tucker’s new late night sushi and ramen menu. We’re also proud of the fact that Slide Brook has already spun over 40 days this winter and opened earlier in the season than it has in years.
On the subject of lifts, we do want to take a minute to address what has been a tricky week for our team. As we have mentioned in the snow report, the lift maintenance team has been working hard on a couple things for both the GMX and Super Bravo lifts. On Super Bravo they’ve been rebuilding the spacing clutches, an in-depth fix that has taken a couple days. We expect that lift to be spinning again by tomorrow. On GMX, our team has been completing a tower side rebuild mid-mountain, a larger assembly that isn’t a quick fix, but one we do expect to have ready for the weekend. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through both of these fixes and have worked to adjust lift operating schedules in the meantime with early openings on Inverness and North Ridge daily at Mt. Ellen and Valley House spinning at Lincoln Peak.
We now look ahead to what should be a fun spring. Some warmer weather over the next two days gives way to another cold spell before looking like much warmer weather come the second week of March. As is the case every year, the events calendar is packed with featured events every weekend from Shaping Our Future to Castlerock Extreme to Pride Weekend to our 5th Annual Spring Fling Featuring Andy Frasco & The U.N. And as we know, March can often be the snowiest month of the year.
There’s still plenty of season left before we close on Sunday, May 3rd, and every reason to come visit. We hope to see you up here for more pow days, spring skiing, fun events, or just some Courtyard après.
See you on the mountain.
