On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Sugarbush Resort Golf Club will host the 2026 King Golf Challenge, hosting golfers, friends, supporters, and special guests together for a day that celebrates the game of golf while raising money for an important cause.
More Than Just a Golf Tournament
The King Golf Challenge was created to bring people together through golf and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families affected by cancer.
Over 3 1/2 years ago, Roger’s wife, Erin, was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery, chemotherapy, amazing doctors, and support from so many friends and family, Erin is cancer free. Through this process, the King family wanted to give back to others struggling through the cancer fighting journey. So became the King Golf Challenge.
What started as an idea to combine golf, friendship, and philanthropy has grown into a special tradition at Sugarbush. To date, the event has raised $60,000 for cancer-related charities, demonstrating what can happen when a community comes together with a common purpose.
This year’s challenge continues that tradition.
The goal is simple: play fun golf, have a great time, and give back.
The 2 amazing charities that benefit from this event are The Vineyard Havens Donate — Vineyard Havensand The Cancer Patient Support Foundation Donate — Cancer Patient Support Foundation. The King family became involved with these organizations through Erin’s Cancer fight and they wanted to give back. This is the reason the King Golf Challenge came to be.
A Special Day at Sugarbush
There are few better settings for a charity golf event than the Sugarbush Resort Golf Club.
Nestled in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, the 18-hole course is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design that takes full advantage of the natural landscape. Sugarbush golf course has a classic mountain layout where the scenery is as memorable as the golf. The 2026 season also brings a new Clubhouse and Pro Shop, giving golfers a new place to gather before and after their rounds.
On August 19, the course will take on an even more important role—as the gathering place for a community united by golf and generosity.

This commitment was recognized in 2026 when King was named the New England PGA’s Vermont Golf Professional of the Year. The NEPGA specifically recognized his philanthropy and his leadership in creating the King Golf Challenge.
