There’s an inflection point that occurs every winter. The gray sky dreariness, the minimal daylight, the holiday bonanza…it transitions away right around this time every year. Enter sunshine, daylight savings, major events, and if not quite spring vibes then at least the promise of them to come. We all love March, and for most it’s probably our favorite month of the ski season.
But we shouldn’t celebrate the departure of this past January and February, as just typical dark and dreary mid-winter months. This season, they were actually some of the snowiest we’d seen in decades. It was the second snowiest January since 2011. February was the snowiest since 2010. The constant snow and deep snowpack led to some of the most consistently great conditions we’ve had in some time. Here’s hoping you enjoyed it. I sure did. And here’s double hoping you were tracking your runs on our journey to one billion vert this winter.
Now the weather has turned, and we’ve entered, at least for now, the freeze/thaw cycles we so successfully avoided for the last two months. And that’s OK. Soft turns and corn snow are something to embrace, never fear, and we will undoubtedly continue to see plenty of snow in what is historically one of the snowiest months each season. You just need to be ready for anything. Today it’s all sunshine and soft snow, but we’ve got plenty of snow showers in the forecast over the next several days.
So don’t even think about turning sights away from the slopes and towards things like spring sports and budding trees. We still have a full two months of skiing and riding ahead. Check out the events calendar, throw on a new ski wax, and get ready for the best time of the year.
See you on the mountain.
