January Snow Highlight and Photos from Winter Storm Fern

Winter showed up in a big way at Sugarbush this week. A powerful storm, Fern, rolled through and delivered 20 inches of fresh snow, making it the biggest snowfall we’ve seen all season. From first chair to last tracks, the mountain was fully refreshed all day long. Trees absolutely loaded, trails stacked with soft turns, and that unmistakable quiet that only comes after a deep storm. Not to mention pockets of sun throughout this week making it a truly one of a kind end to January.

This is the kind of snowfall we wait all winter for. The kind that turns familiar runs into something brand new and reminds us why Vermont storms are legendary. So far this month, we’ve seen over 70 inches of snow fall and there’s still a few days left to get that number up. This is the third snowiest January in the last 15 years, with the winter of 2010-11 taking the cake at 89 inches. Scroll through the gallery below to relive the storm, soak in the scenes, and get fired up, because winter is very much alive at Sugarbush. Halfway down, half way to go.
