If you’re clued into the Sugarbush golf world much then Roger King is no stranger to you. Our PGA Pro and friend, Roger has been teaching, competing, and representing Sugarbush for a number of years here now. And if you keep up with our blog, you’re likely at least somewhat familiar with the King Golf Challenge. For the past two years Roger has embarked on a true feat of golf heroism, playing 100 and then 144 holes of golf in a single day all in the name of charitable giving.
After his family fought through battles with cancer, Roger started the challenge as a means of raising awareness and money for a couple of organizations that helped his family through their battle: Vineyard Havens and Vermont Cancer Patient Support Foundation.
But this year, in an effort to keep things fresh, he decided to put a spin on the event. He flexed his connections in the sports world and rounded up MLB hall-of-famer Jim Kaat and former NFL players Max Lane and Ronnie Lippett to join him. They teamed up to complete 27 holes, raising money for the charities along the way.
This go-around, they raised another $15,000, bringing the three year total to $52,000. And the community came out to support. As the group finished their final hole a crowd formed for a final cheer session before making their way to Hogan’s Pub to celebrate. With beautiful weather and plenty of money raised, it’s all everything anyone could have asked for.
NBC5 was on hand to cover the event, and you can check out their story online. But don’t worry if you missed it, the plan is keep bringing back this challenge. Who knows what Roger will have in store for next year.
