At this time last year, we were battling a warm and dry fall, celebrating our Opening Day on December 4th with one lift and four trails. Man what a difference a year makes!
Not only have we already been open for two weeks, but we’ve been enjoying top-to-bottom skiing since Opening Day. Since then, we’ve seen plenty of natural snow, letting us open Castlerock to hiking today and dropping plenty of ropes on trails like Ripcord, Paradise, Birdland and Domino. Just this week we grabbed another foot of snow, helping us reopen a lot of the terrain we had briefly closed from a warmup in late November. It’s definitely thin in spots, so if you’re not comfortable skiing that terrain yet or dinging up your skis a bit, those trails might not be for you in the short-term.
In addition to all the natural, our snowmakers have been cranking through these cold temps, and we now have multiple routes with snowmaking depths open and groomed out. Not only that, but tomorrow we welcome in Gate House and the Welcome Mat to the fold, adding in beginner and intermediate terrain and letting all ability levels enjoy this great early season skiing. With that all set to go, the snowmaking crews have shifted over to Snowball, Spring Fling, and Valley House Traverse, and it shouldn’t be long before we see those open as well. Not to mention, snowmaking remains consistent at Mt. Ellen, and we continue to prep that for opening in a couple weeks.
Most of our outlets are now open from retail to rentals to restaurants, with the remaining Wunderbar and 802 Burritos coming online next week and then Mt. Ellen the week after. Definitely check out some of the new swag at the Adventure Gear Shop or the new night menu at The Tucker.
It’s been an excellent start to the season, and the forecast continues to look promising for more snow and cold temperatures. Hopefully you’re well prepared to come visit this season, but if not, it’s not too late to grab a TBD Ticket or Quad Pack, both of which go off sale tonight at midnight. So either grab one of those, dig out your pass, or buy a ticket online…this season is already shaping up to be one for the history books.
See you on the mountain.
