Winter Activities in the Mad River Valley

This has got to be one of my favorite blog types to write, because I love showing off this spunky little valley. There’s so much to do, but this community truly shines in the winter. It’s a bustling little village blanketed in winter white from late November through April. And there is just so much to see and do. Tons of family friendly activities, stops for the foodies, and of course, plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. So bundle up and get up to the Mad River Valley because these are some must do’s to try before winter ends this year!

Ice Skating at the Skatium

A classic winter activity – outdoor ice skating. Who doesn’t love that? Whether you’re a beginner or a skating pro, it’s such a fun activity to do to celebrate winter. This volunteer run rink has got you covered right in downtown Waitsfield, it’s in the middle of all the action! They’ve got you covered with rentals, sharpening and even season passes. Swing by to skate for an hour or two, or drop in for a game of pick up hockey. Either way, you’re sure to enjoy some lovely winter vibes in the town’s only ice rink! Pottery Classes at Blockhouse Studio

A personal favorite, is hitting up the local art classes in town! Blockhouse Studio in Waitsfield is the perfect stop for these bitterly cold mid-winter days. You can sign up for a series of classes, or any of their one off classes like mug building, feel the wheel, and even non-pottery classes pop up like block printing! It’s the perfect way to get your creative juices flowing, try something new, and bring home a truly unique souvenir from your trip.

Cross Country Skiing Across the Valley

I know when you think of the Valley you’re thinking of Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, but there’s tons of cross country ski trails to take advantage of too! If you’re just looking to switch things up or try something new, we’ve got some perfect trails for you to try. And don’t worry, there’s rentals around if you need them, maps to guide you and everything else you might need for your adventure! Check out XC Ski Resorts website for more info.
