What’s the state of the mountain this week you might ask? Snowy. Yes snowy. Again. For all the incredible snow we received in January (six feet!), February is starting off just as strong. We’ve already seen two feet of new snow since the calendar flipped months, with another potential big guy on the way. Snow showers are expected today through Saturday, and then we welcome in what looks like at least 6-10″ Saturday night into Sunday. While it looks to be decently windy today, and we may expect some wind holds, Saturday and Sunday both look primo with temps in the 20s and teens and less wind.
Pretty much everything is skiing great right now. Depths are deep on all of our snowmaking terrain, especially our spring trails, and that’s all underneath layer after layer of soft packed pow. The trees are skiing well, natural bump runs remain soft, and Slide Brook’s been a treat for those who have ventured in. Conditions just don’t get much better than this, especially at such a consistency going on a month now.

Other than just sitting here oozing about how good the skiing is, there honestly isn’t a lot to report on the operations front. Work on Slide Brook makes steady progress forward. We’re hoping it could be ready for President’s Week, and we’ll keep you posted as we get closer. Snowmaking has pretty much wrapped up. The Parks are in awesome shape. Uphill routes are filled in. Did I mention how good conditions are? That’s about it.
We continue to march forward towards our billion vert goal with The Descent To Rise Above. We’re closing in on being a quarter of the way there and remain confident we can hit our goal if everyone chips in. Please don’t forget to throw on your tracking when you’re out on the hill. And I’d encourage you to share your stories about skiing and mental health using #beoneofabillion on social media for the chance to win cool weekly prizes.
Have you been checking out the new dining options yet? Paradise Provisions is now doing pizza Thursday-Sunday. Check out the full menu. The Tucker continues to be an incredible new addition. I just had myself a Chai Latte and Traditional sandwich yesterday. Oh, and the cocktails are nothing to balk at either.
There are also some great events on the docket this weekend. We’re hosting an Intro To Backcountry Touring Clinic with our friends at the Catamount Trail Association all day on Saturday at Mt. Ellen. While this session is already full, we hope it’s something that can continue to grow. If you want to skin on your own, consider ascending for Walt’s After Dark. Oh and don’t forget about the big game. We’ll have our video wall up in Rumble’s for the Superbowl, as well as the Puppy Bowl beforehand.
Those are just a few highlights. Our Winter Golf Clinics, Trapp Tuesday, Thursdays at Mt. Ellen, and an Allyn’s Lodge Experience featuring Lawson’s are all events right around the corner. Plus, the President’s Week calendar is chalk full of good times.
I know I keep saying it, but get up here. The skiing. Is. Good. This past month has been an incredible run, and it doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon.
See you on the mountain.
