I think my professors hate me. Not because I’m disrespectful or forget to turn in my homework, but because my priorities have clearly been elsewhere this winter.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when you’re a student at UVM. The mountains get closer, the snow gets better, and suddenly you find yourself skiing or riding more and more. Don’t even get me started on what happened when I finally brought a car to school.
Anyway, maybe my professors don’t actually hate me, but Mother Nature? She seems determined to keep delivering snow Monday through Friday, right when classes are in session. How am I supposed to write that excuse?
Dear Professor, I can’t make it today…it snowed.
Throughout my four years of college, I’ve been told that things start to get serious senior year. Look for a job. Find a place to live. Figure it out.
And I am serious, just not about the things they had in mind. I’m serious about skiing.
So where’s the balance?
I see two options. Drop out and ski full-time. Or convince my professors to move class to the mountain. I mean, you could probably fit half a lecture in during the ride on Slide Brook from Lincoln to Ellen.
If you’re my professor reading this, let me know your thoughts, comments, or concerns. I’ll see you in class on Monday, conditions permitting.
