Spring Fling is the most looked forward to event at the end of the season. It’s a day filled with celebration for a great winter, the welcoming of warmer months, and of course a great excuse to party on in the courtyard. This year will be our 2nd annual Spring Fling event and if it’s anything like last year, you won’t want to miss it. Rain or shine, the Lincoln Peak courtyard will be filled with live music and the ideal après spring skiing scene!
Pond Skimming
Kicking off the celebration will be our annual Pond Skim. It’s a favorite spring skiing activity held at resorts across the country. It’s just as entertaining to watch as it is to participate! Skiers and riders gear up to skim across a 120 ft. pond at the base of Lincoln Peak. The entire event will be judged based on 3 categories: Overall Style, Biggest Splash & Best Costume. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 participants scoring highest, so go big or go home!
Spring Fling Free Concert
It’s your first chance of the season to enjoy live music outdoors again! Something I know I look forward to every summer. The best part is this concert is entirely free. We’re showcasing some local talent, well-known across Vermont, as well as a returning favorite from last year. Bask in that warm spring sun and enjoy the music of The Grift, Kat Wright, and DJ LOGIC. It’s going to be the event of the season, so get here early, grab your drink and a spot in the crowd, and get ready to welcome spring!
While the concert is free, we want to spread the good vibes as afar as possible. Please consider bringing a non-perishable item to donate to the local Mad River Valley Community Pantry. A donation table will be staffed from 12-2 near the entryway kiosk, or you can drop your donation off at Guest Services any time.
2023 Artists
The Grift is a popular club, wedding, and event-band based in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. Their sound defies easy categorization, blending booty-shaking grooves and improvisation with radio-friendly hooks, witty lyrics, and tight vocal harmonies. Grift shows are energetic and original, with band members swapping instruments and occasionally playing two at a time. Their deep catalog of original music blends roots-rock and pop and jam. The Grift was formed by two Middlebury College grads Clint Bierman and Jeff Vallone in 1999, and since then has performed 2,300+ shows in 25 states and four countries. The current lineup of The Grift have been together for almost 20 years with Peter joining in 2003.
Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse”. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology. It’s funky in spots and beautiful all over. And it hurts a little… like it should.
DJ LOGIC and his role as an electronic-music ambassador keeps him at the top of his game. Whether the scratch artist instructs tablas to flirt with drum ‘n’ bass (such as on his NINA SIMONE and BILLY HOLIDAY remixes found on Sony Legacy’s Remixed and Reimagined volumes) , or while meshing free styling MC’s with Afro-Cuban rhythms (such as on ‘Share Worldwide Funk’ – a remix produced for JACK DeJOHNETTE and Golden Beams Collected, Volume 1 ) , LOGIC can always be found paying homage to his predecessors while contributing his vision to the deejay genre. While the context of his work may vary, DJ LOGIC’S spinning skills are definitely beyond reproach. He works with a phenomenal roster of invited guests, and he knows how to pick his collaborators as well as his samples. With a growing catalogue of recordings under his belt, DJ LOGIC’S supreme musicianship and catholic tastes will allow him to journey wherever an infectious groove may take him.
