On Wednesday, July 9, the King Golf Challenge returns to Sugarbush Golf Club, bringing a day of big swings, big names, and even bigger impacts. Local legend Roger King is playing 36 holes in a pro/celebrity format, joined by MLB Hall of Famer Jim Kaat and New England Patriots greats Ronnie Lippett and Max Lane. But this day is about more than golf, it’s about rallying support for two life-changing organizations: Vineyard Havens and the Vermont Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPSF).
About the Event
The King Golf Challenge has become a beloved tradition, raising over $40,000 to date for families facing the burdens of cancer. This year’s format is 36 holes of golf alongside celebrity athletes, with the public invited to come watch, cheer, and support.
The day wraps up with a lively après celebration at Hogan’s Pub, where golfers, supporters, and fans can come together for some well-earned refreshments and good company.

Vineyard Havens Inc. offers a different kind of medicine by providing all-expenses-paid respite vacations for patients with cancer and their families on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard. Our package includes housing, round trip car ferry tickets, professional family beach photos and vacation “fun money”. 100% of all the money we raise goes directly to the families we serve. Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPSF) is a Vermont based charity that is an independent, non-profit organization. We serve Vermont cancer patients and their families in a time of extraordinary need by providing financial assistance and support during diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Meet the Celebrity Golfers
They’ll be teeing it up alongside Roger for a great cause and a great day on the course:
- Jim Kaat – A Major League Baseball Hall of Famer with a legendary 25-season career, 16-time Gold Glove winner, and a part-time Vermonter.
- Ronnie Lippett – Former cornerback for the New England Patriots, known for his role in the 1985 Super Bowl team and for being one of the top defenders of his era.
- Max Lane – Former offensive lineman for the Patriots, known for his grit in the trenches and his years protecting the quarterback throughout the 1990s.
