A Little Something for Everyone – Explore Sugarbush’s Vegetarian Options

During a quick leg break or after a day out on the slopes, nothing quite feels better than indulging in a tasty bite to eat and a warm beverage to wash it down. I always crave certain foods when I’m snowboarding, and I feel like I’m not alone in saying that. Usually something salty and full of carbs. It used to be a big ol’ bacon cheeseburger with the largest serving of French fries possible, but times have changed, and I actually haven’t eaten meat (other than fish) in over a year now! While I’ve been loving this lifestyle change, it has pushed me to get creative in the things I eat. My fiancé and I have finally nailed what we make at home, but eating out is still something I struggle with, and that includes what I get to eat at ski resorts.

Luckily, Sugarbush has a wide variety of dining outlets, making it easy to accommodate most dietary preferences and restrictions. And for those of you who have struggled like I have, don’t worry I’ve already done the research legwork for you. So here are some of my favorite vegetarian dishes from around the resort.

802 Burritos

New to Sugarbush this year, 802 Burritos is located in the Lincoln Peak Courtyard, outside of the Gate House Lodge. Their veggie burrito is perfect for a quick lunch and delicious! I’ve also tried their Southwest salad which is topped with chipotle ranch and a great salsa (with beans), making it both filling and a great gluten-free option.

Castlerock Pub

If you’re looking to either sit down and eat or enjoy a bit of a larger meal, the Grain Bowl from Castlerock Pub is super healthy and keeps me satisfied for hours. If you still want to give in to those salty carby ski day cravings, I HIGHLY recommend the Mac n Cheese bites.

Rumble’s Bistro & Bar

Rumble’s is known for its sit-down fine-dining experience, but also provides takeout! I recently tried the Rumble’s Salad which is topped with a hardboiled egg, pickled onions, sunflower seeds, and a maple balsamic vinaigrette. The day I got the salad I also treated myself to their Parmesan Truffle Fries, which I definitely recommend. Thinking you may want something a little more après? Their Black Bean Burger is super good, too.

The Wunderbar

While The Wunderbar does have great salads, their Vegetarian Tri-Mushroom Cheesesteak is a delicious option if you want to change things up! I love when restaurants take a classic favorite and change it into a veggie-centric dish. I do miss a good cheesesteak, and this is a great substitute.

The Green Mountain Lounge

If you’re trying to find out what my all-time favorite Sugarbush meal is, I’ll tell ya! The Green Mountain Lounge at Mt. Ellen has an Ahi Tuna BLT that I love to treat myself to. I do request it without the bacon, but everything else on it is so good you don’t even miss it. If you’re really looking to treat yourself, upgrade your side to the Rosemary Parmesan Fries… Perfection! (I have a thing for French fries, okay?). This dish obviously hinges on whether or not you eat fish.

Walt’s at the Glen House

If you’ve visited Sugarbush before I’m sure you’ve heard about Walt’s Grilled Cheeses. If you haven’t, this should be the first stop on your itinerary! Walt’s is located in the Glen House, the midway lodge at Mt. Ellen, and is known for their wide selection of famous grilled cheeses. I highly recommend The Mountain Goat – goat cheese, cider and fig marmalade, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and arugula. While a lot of their options have bacon on them, they’re just as delicious without it!  The Grain Bowls are also a healthy option that are worth checking out as well.

Speaking of grilled cheese, a lot of our dining outlets have one on the menu, which makes having a delicious bite to eat without the meat pretty easy no matter where you go. Our new food truck, The Lunch Box, located right outside of the Gate House Lodge near the Super Bravo lift, has a Vermont Grilled Cheese that you can grab without even taking off your skis!

As you probably know by now, all Resort dining reservations and takeout orders should be made online ahead of time. The easiest way to do this is to download the Sugarbush App and hit the “Reserve Table – Order Takeout” button right in the middle of your screen. Setting up your account ahead of time also makes ordering and reserving even easier once you’re here!
